Seattle Cooper’s Hawk Project

  • 2004-2011 (Jack Bettesworth): blue bands
  • 2012-present (Ed Deal, & Martin Muller): orange bands on right leg (females), purple bands on left leg (males)
  • Band return rate of 40%

Seattle Merlin Project

  • 2008-present (Kim McCormick & Ben Vang-Johnson)
  • Blue bands on the bird’s left leg
  • 77 Merlins banded
  • Over 200 sightings of banded Merlins, over half of which were full band reads

If you see a banded raptor in the Seattle area, contact URC. It’s especially helpful if you can report the color and read the band, but we are eager to hear of all sightings of banded raptors in the region.
